The Writer/Editor is responsible for producing a variety of materials for the purpose of advancing the communications agenda for the organisation. Main duties include: •Produce materials for print and electronic publications, such as press releases, feature articles, brochures, leaflets, opinion pieces and other materials destined for external audiences. •Draft and edit English-language speeches •Produce written communications materials for internal communications purposes, when needed •Research preparation and writing background documents for external use to complement the overall media and communication strategy •Supervise the quality of materials posted on the organisation’s website •Increase the attractiveness and accessibility of organisation’s written materials The desired candidate should: •Have developing country exposure •Hold a University Degree in Journalism, Communications or a related field •At least 10 years of full-time, professional experience in journalism/editing in an international context with at least 5 years as speech writer •Excellent writing and editing skills including a track record of being able to write effective speeches on complex issues and to tight deadlines •Well-developed proof-reading skills •Knowledge of and interest in humanitarian/development work and/or the key areas of activity of the organisation •Native fluency in English •Ability to work under pressure and excellent time management skills •Solid information technology skills and a knowledge of electronic publishing •Willingness to travel on a frequent basis to the areas of operation of the organisation’s institutions |
